Kathmandu: Nepal’s women’s football team delivered a thrilling performance in the SAFF Women’s Championship, advancing to the final by defeating India in a closely contested semifinal at Kathmandu's Dasharath Stadium. In an intense match that ended in a 4-2 penalty shootout victory, Nepal secured its spot in the final, set for Sunday.
The game saw no goals in the first half, with both teams showing strong defense and determination. Early in the second half, Nepal’s Sabitra Bhandari, known as ‘Samba,’ broke the deadlock by scoring the opening goal. India responded later in the half, leveling the score at 1-1, which remained unchanged until the end of regulation time, leading to the penalty shootout.
With their win over India, Nepal is set to face Bangladesh in the championship final. Bangladesh advanced to the final earlier by defeating Bhutan in a decisive 7-1 victory, showcasing their formidable attacking prowess.
